Getting Into ESMT Business School:
For MBA applicants seeking business schools in Europe, many are turning to ESMT European School of Management and Technology, located in Berlin, Germany. With the largest economy in Europe, Germany provides an ideal setting for students to become familiar with successful international companies. Such companies founded ESMT in 2002, which accounts for the institution's motto, "the business school founded by business." Set in the historic former building of East Berlin's state council, the one-year, intensive MBA program features a global environment of international students and professors. Jörg Rocholl, President of ESMT, explains the advantages of ESMT’s MBA program. Current ESMT student and host, Gizem Baskocagil, shows us around and introduces us to the program director, Nick Barniville. Our guests discuss the nature of the ESMT program, scholarships available, international faculty, and how the business school may be your perfect fit.

Gizem Baskocagil, host and current ESMT MBA student:
Welcome to MBA PodTV. I’m your host Gizem Baskocagil, an MBA student at ESMT European School of Management and Technology in Berlin.
An MBA – what does that mean to me? For me, the MBA program is an important step for my career, maybe the most important one. Although I have worked for several years in telecom industries and financial services in my home country Turkey, I have always known that I want to go back to the classroom.
I also had a clear idea about how my MBA program should be: international, intensive, with lots of individual attention, and no longer than one year. I also wanted to go to a business school with strong corporate support.
This is exactly what I found here at ESMT European School of Management and Technology – in the heart of Germany’s vibrant capital Berlin. Berlin is just as international as the ESMT. And Germany is THE economic hotspot in Europe. This is another reason for me to stay after graduation and work in financial services or banking here in Germany.
There are many business schools, but only ESMT was founded by 25 leading global companies and institutions. And this is an advantage you can feel every day:
I found top professors in class, impressive conferences with international guests at our school and the combination of studying in Berlin and at ESMT is exactly what I had hoped for. Over 90 per cent of our graduates have a job offer three months after graduation. Nick Barniville, our MBA director, can tell you more about the advantages of the program.

The ESMT MBA has a strong practical component. Participants apply their management consulting and leadership skills in a live team-based seven-week consulting project, usually with one of ESMT’s founders or with an entrepreneurial venture. Before that, our students choose their specialization from two elective tracks: Management of Innovation and Technology (MIT) or Global Sustainable Business (GSB) – both including a module abroad.
Gizem Baskocagil, host and current ESMT MBA student:
The student body is also quite diverse and international – my MBA class consists of 41 students from 24 nations. It is no coincidence that our German language courses are popular. Since Berlin has such rich cultural activities there are always a lot of opportunities to go out with your colleagues if you have a little time to spare after class.
The ESMT full-time MBA is a one-year MBA program taught entirely in English. It focuses on management and leadership skills and offers the best basis for a big step in my career by letting me discover and develop my strengths. More about the program’s underlying idea can be best explained by Jörg Rocholl, president of ESMT.

ESMT develops entrepreneurial leaders from all over the world who think globally and act responsibly. Important factors are open-mindedness and respect for the individual. We create knowledge that is founded on European values and the potential of technology to foster sustainable economic growth. The high quality of our programs is recognized by the accreditations of AACSB, AMBA, and FIBAA.
Gizem Baskocagil, host and current ESMT MBA student:
I am continuously impressed by the world class ESMT faculty and their high quality research. The 32 members from 19 countries are practice-oriented academics as well as theory-oriented experts. The interactive and experiential learning in the classroom means that we can definitely put our new knowledge into action as soon as we get back to the “real world”.
A compact and high quality education, an international faculty and strong ties to the German economy: This is the key to my successful future!
